About
Helen hails from New England. Her first flute was a self-gift. Having never played a wind instrument, upon picking it up, she was thrilled to find she could. Helen now takes one everywhere she goes, and has since developed a string of thriving Native American Style Flute (NASF) programs. She is the largest purveyor of NAS flutes in New England.
Globally recognized by the Native American Style Flute Awards for her programs, playing, and flute charity, she is also the winner of the 2021 “Global Instructor of the Year” Award. Helen's passion for playing, teaching, and sharing the love, lore, and history of the Native American Style Flute is palpable.
She has been honored to write flute book and CD reviews, and website testimonials for several flute musicians and flute makers. Helen is in the process of co-designing her own line of flutes with world renowned flute maker, Woodsounds Flutes. She continues to take lessons with the some of the world’s top players, currently Jan Michael Looking Wolf and Timothy JP Gomez. She is mentored by Terry Mack.
Have flutes will travel. Helen performs and teaches throughout New England and beyond. She has played in many wonderful locations for private intimate affairs, been a headliner in a castle, and as a roving musician to festival crowds of 30,000+ in NY to name a few. Helen’s year round lesson programs are located in concert venues, community colleges, adult education programs, senior centers, and on Zoom.
An intuitive instrument, Helen’s improvisations take you on a meandering journey of the mind, heart, and soul, going from the realm of the ethereal, to blues, jazz, and places in between.
Whether hired as a featured performer, a roving musician to add ambiance to ceremonies, festivals, and gatherings, an interactive program with mini lessons for your guests, or an educational program that includes the history and colorful legends that bring this instrument to life, Helen’s Willow Wind performances are perfect for any event.
